1-Day Tactical Shotgun Operator – Level 1
This foundational course is designed for law enforcement officers, competitive shooters, and hunters seeking to build confidence and competence with the shotgun in dynamic environments.
With a strong emphasis on safe manipulation, loading and unloading, and fundamental marksmanship, this course provides the essential skills needed to operate a shotgun effectively and responsibly.
Course Topics Include:
- Shotgun setup and parts overview
- Ammunition selection and carriage options
- Patterning and slug accuracy
- Shotgun-specific shooting fundamentals
- Recoil management techniques
- Loading, reloading, and ammunition transitions
- Positional shooting (standing, kneeling, prone)
- Shooting on the move
- Engaging from awkward positions
- Maintenance and care of your shotgun
Participants will also gain a deeper understanding of how different ammunition types affect performance, patterning, and effective range.
Required Equipment:
- 250 rounds of birdshot (#7.5 or #8)
- 30 rounds of buckshot
- 30 slugs
- Shell caddies, shotshell belt, or pouches for ammo carriage
- Hearing and eye protection, plus a baseball cap
- Clothing suitable for inclement weather
- Elbow and/or knee pads (recommended)
- Water and snacks
- Notebook and pen (optional but encouraged)
